The Google Breakfast Briefings resumed today (Feb 27th 2015) at The Foundry at Google HQ with the first topic being Search Engine Quality.

As part of the topics covered, it was refreshing to hear Google reinforce what we already know – there’s no fast or guaranteed way to get the first ranked position in Google’s organic search results. Google’s ranking factors reward those websites who use “white hat” tactics of using quality, relevant and updated content in conjunction with site speed and mobility friendly sites. “Black Hat”, short term tactics won’t deliver over the long haul and Google’s ranking algorithms will ultimately penalise these.

Sites that demonstrate quality, trustworthiness and security will win out in the longer term – and indeed the HTTPS (secure) protocol is one of Google’s ranking factors.

To quote from today’s presentation:
“A successful search performance is to be found and visited by the right people, for the right searches and have the right content to match their wants/needs with your business goals”

An interesting revelation from today’s briefing was that as of April 2015, Google will add in “mobile friendly” as a ranking factor for search results via mobile devices.
